RiceIPM Crop Checking

To grow a rice crop that will have minimal loss due to pests, regular crop checking is required. Crop checking will help farmers and advisers determine the pest and natural enemy situations that can assist in making informed management decisions. This section of RiceIPM provides information and skills on specific sampling techniques for pest groups (insects, weeds, diseases) that are appropriate for researchers and farmers. Simple crop-checking techniques such as direct checking (ie. counting, sweep netting and light traps) and checking for symptoms are outlined.
